Fort Bragg is home to the U.S. Army Airborne Forces and the Special Forces. Fort Bragg covers over 250 square miles and is located largely in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Housing at Fort Bragg is available through an application process that requires military personnel to go on a waiting list if no property is current available. The Picerne Military Housing Welcome Center handles the check in and application proves and is located on the 6th floor of the Soldier Support Center. More than 4,500 homes are available through the housing office and include duplexes and two, three and four bedroom multi-family dwellings. Off-post housing is also available for those looking for homes to rent or buy. Single soldiers will be assigned to barracks on base that are divided into nine different housing areas.
Temporary lodging is provided by the Airborne Inn which has three separate guest houses offering up to a 30 day stay with approval. All rooms offer color T.V., microwave, hair dryer and high speed internet. The Fort Bragg school system includes six elementary schools, one middle school and one junior high. In order to be enrolled in the school system, students must live on base at Fort Bragg or have five months or less before they will obtain post housing. Child care at Fort Bragg is provided by four separate child care developmental centers. The centers provided full-day care, home-based care, and special needs care. Youth and child services are also available for the children ages 4 weeks to 12 years. Before and after school care is provided as well as long term care. The four child development centers offering services include the Cook Child Development Center, the Fernandez Child Development Center, the Prager Child Development Center, and the Rodriguez Child Development Center.
